Milka Duno Finds Wall In Practice At Indy

May 11, Indianapolis – Some railbirds at Indy say, it’s not if you’re going to hit the wall at Indy? it’s when. Some speedsters like Rick Mears didn’t find the wall until their fifteenth year at Indianapolis, others like Bobby Unser and Dan Wheldon found it in their rookie year.

Add Milka Duno to that list.

Duno driving the Citgo Racing-SAMAX Racing Dallara/Honda spun into the south chute wall between turns one and two at 1:58pm today. Exiting turn one, Duno made a quarter spin and made hard impact squarely with the rear of the car. The car came to a rest inside of turn two with heavy damge to the rear of the car. Duno exited the car uninjured. Duno’s hit was hard enough that IMS track safety had to make repairs to the SAFER barrier. “I just lost the car as I was entering the last part of the corner when I was coming to the peak. I feel sorry for my team and for the car because they were doing such a great job. Now we’ll have to fix it.” Duno remarked after being released from the Clarian Emergency Medical Center located on the Speedway grounds.

Duno has been cleared to drive.

Track conditions have been good all day with ambient temperatures reaching 81 degrees at Noon, relative humidity of 40 percent, light winds from the northeast at 5 mph. Track temperatures reaching 108 degrees according to Firestone engineers.
